* The Eigelsteintorburg (Porta Eigelis in the Middle Ages, and later Eigelsteinpforte, Eigelsteintor; Kölsch Eijelsteinspooz) is one of three surviving Stadttorburgen the medieval city wall in Cologne.
* The Torburg was in the 3rd Expansion of the city from 1180 to 1259 (from 1228 to 124 built and secured the northern access to the city (street after Neuss). It was the second gate of this name. During the 2nd Expansion of 1106 was the first Eigelsteintor 100 m south of the current facility (north of the Roman North Gate - Porta Aquila also later Pforte Pfaff) is hereby established.
* Use from 1815
The Prussian Eigelsteintorburg was several times rebuilt and strengthened, inter alia, as a military prison. After repairing the gate served first as science museum, since 1898 in addition to Hahnentor as a historical museum.
