Citadel of Enfé (Anfeh), district of El-Koura, Lebanon (34°20' NR - 35°41' E). Enfé, small coastal city in the south of Tripoli, saw artisanal fishing and of its olive-trees, its vines and its salt-water marshes. This old port phenician, to which it is refers under the name of Ampi to the viie century before J. - C. in the Al-Amarna clay shelves, knew the occupation of cross at the beginning of the xiie century. The peninsula, which advances of 400 m in the Mediterranean, then sheltered the castle of “Nephin”, frightening roughcast fortress of twelve turns, isolated on its headland by a trench cut in the rock from the isthmus, and which was destroyed in 1289 by the Mamelukes. Witnesses of a past plurimillénaire animated, these classified ruins have escaped with the concreting of the littoral. The coastal area lodges, over 16% of the territory, 70% of the Lebanese population (on average 1.610 inhabitants/km2), and the anarchistic and badly controlled urbanization which prevails there since the years 1980 threatens the cultural heritage and natural environment. From now on, the economic revival and the growth of the tourist sector must take account of the requirements of sustainable development.
