Wallpaper Description:
Bal du Moulin de la Galette
Auguste Renoir, 1876
oil on canvas
131 × 175 cm
Musee d'Orsay, Paris

This canvas painted in 1876 is an oil on canvas measuring 1.31 m high by 1.75 m wide and is kept at the Musée d'Orsay, at higher salle32.

The scene takes place outdoors (constraint needed the Impressionists), Sunday afternoon, a sunny day at the Moulin de la Galette in Montmartre. Those present in the scene are friends of the painter: models, painters, regulars, among whom we recognize: the writer Georges River, the painter Goeneutte, Lamy, who settled at the table in the foreground and called Estelle sits on the bench and Frédéric Samuel Cordey. Renoir is well on his canvas, a joyous crowd of people from all walks of life who share a good time, dancing on the left, right chat, smoke and drink. All these characters are represented in this action that raises questions such as grooming or dispute? ...

We can then define three planes in the foreground was the discussion of people sitting in the background dancers and the third level of the buildings where we see the orchestra.

Instead of using as do most artists, sharpening the foreground and then gradually blur, it is unclear everywhere and the only difference in depth is the size of those represented. He decided to represent this scene in a warm blue dotted with spots of light spread unevenly as if they were crossing the trees to reach the close of the crowd.

Thanks to the light Renoir shows these characters, for example the couple left the scene seems to be surrounded by ground lights and the pink dress of women reinforces this effect and highlights.

Renoir uses pastel colors more or less acute in some areas.
