Wallpaper Description:
Roman Bridge in Cordoba, Spain

This Roman bridge that is still in use in Spain (the Roman province of Hispania Ulterior Baetica) crosses the Guadalquivir River. Its total length is 247 m; the span lengths are 9.5 - 10.8 m, and it has 16 spans. The bridge was made of stone, perhaps in the 1st century B.C. [Source: Roman Bridge in Cordoba.] It may have been made of wood first, possibly for Caesar, and then remade in stone. An Arab governor repaired the bridge in A.D. 719/20, but much Roman stonework remained.
