The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims is one of the most architecturally Gothic churches of France. From 12 to 19 Century, the French kings crowned. It has since 1991 next to the Palais du Tau and the Basilica of Saint-Remi to the Unesco World Heritage Site. The three-aisled basilica as the cathedral was decorated with the exception of the western front in the 13th Century (1211 - 1311) completed. The final completion was in the 14th Century, after the ship had been extended to the space to offer people who were crowned with the King were present. During a 1481 fire, the roof and destroyed the towers.
The interior
The cathedral of Reims is a three-aisled basilica in the tradition of Chartreser schema. Choir and nave created between 1211 and 1233rd The height of the central nave is almost 39 meters, while the internal length is 138 meter. The nave is in the west through the newly invented wonderfully lit tracery windows and the glazed tympanum of the portal zone enables entirely new light conditions. What you see from the outside could hardly is in the interior to be very effective. Also behind the portals of Wimpergen was dissolved in a glass wall, so that an intermediate light band between the two roses arose. This is an early form of a little later developed glazed triforium.
Here we now have a fully developed scheme of the High Gothic style in front of us, in France no longer significantly change: dreizoniger wall construction, four cross-ribbed vaulting and tracery windows.
