Before the railroads opened up the country, the Goodhue County produces more wheat than any other county in the United States. 1873 Red Wing led the ranking with the highest wheat on envelope. The warehouses in the Port of Red Wing had a capacity of more than one million bushel of wheat. After the railway southern Minnesota with Minneapolis and Saint Anthony the association, where the largest cereal mills, lost the Port of Red Wing its significance.
