The city was founded in 1670 and after the English King Charles II named Charles Town. It was 1690, with 1200 inhabitants and is the fifth largest city in North America and the hub of the slave trade in British colonies on the Middle Passage. After the War of Independence, the city got its present name in 1783. The city was the Charleston earthquake of 1886 largely destroyed, but in the four subsequent years of their inhabitants rebuilt. It is now considered a North American architectural jewel, with many buildings of the 19th Century are still preserved.

...And my hometown ^^. Nice arial shot of houses along The Battery which is where the Civil War began for this city.
