Kinkaku-ji (金é˜å¯ºJapanese, English "Golden Pavilion Temple") is a Buddhist temple in the northwest of the Japanese city of Kyoto in their district Kita-ku. His real name is Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, English "DeerGarden Temple"). The buildings on the temple grounds were built in the year 1397 and originally served as a residence for the age ShÅgun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. His son converted it into a Zen temple of the Rinzai school around.
