My Dad was stationed here in the late 1920's, said that a fresh Coast Guard crew was sent out each month. Can you imagine being stationed here, no fresh water to drink or bathe in that wasn't brought in with the crew each month? Bet the sailors swam every day just to keep from stinking! Dad said it was beautiful there and he loved the peace of it. It's easy to see why the pirates chose the Dry Tortugas to hide out in. Dad also said it was haunted! I so hope to visit it one day!
