by Historyplex ------
On the other hand; it is said that gothic style dates back to dark ages.
"Gothic architecture is an architectural style that was prevalent in Europe from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas. It evolved from Romanesque architecture and was succeeded by Renaissance architecture."_Wikipedia ----- Yet, gothic style looks so much older and more complicated than byzantine. also... Roman empire fell in 5th century (September 4, 476 AD)
"For the first time in almost a millennium, the city of Rome was in the hands of foreigners. Wave after wave of Germanic barbarian tribes swept through the Roman Empire. Groups such as the Visigoths, Vandals, Angles, Saxons, Franks, Ostrogoths, and Lombards took turns ravaging the Empire, eventually carving out areas in which to settle down. The Angles and Saxons populated the British Isles, and the Franks ended up in France."
So, who built the gothic architecture? It is said by many sources that byzantine style is fashioned after the orthodox cross ( dome placed over the square base) whereas, gothic style is supposedly fashioned after the Roman type of a cross (one line longer than the other). However, the quality of the gothic buildings is timeless... it could literally last for another 1,000 years whereas, byzantine style is known to easily crumble and needed numerous and extensive restorations in it's past. Isn't it more likely then that both styles existed for far longer than the historians would admit and that gothic style precedes the Romanesque and Byzantine styles? Gothic buildings are found all over the globe, even in China and Japan..., Africa, Australia, Micronesia etc. China was closed off from the rest of the world for much of their history and what about the US? Same architecture found here. Also claimed to have been built in middle ages. By early settlers?? I don't think so. ----- my input |

| Posted by lucille80 on 01/06/22 at 08:23 AM the architecture follows the Byzantine style, as can be seen in the domes, the palace is very beautiful. |
