# The idea of a reconstruction of the castle came to the then Crown Prince, later King Frederick William IV, possibly in 1819, when he was on a trip to Italy also wanted to know the roots of its origin and ascended the mountain.
The castle in its present form is a building of the renowned Berlin architect Friedrich August Stiller, who was appointed in 1842 as pupil and successor of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the architect of the king. It is considered a typical representative of the Gothic revival in the German language. The impressive driveway installations designed, the engineer officer Moritz Karl Ernst von Prittwitz, who was regarded then as the leading Prussian fortress builder.
