Tolbiac is a city of ancient Gaul, near Cologne. Called victory of Tolbiac, the victory away by Clovis, king of the Franks, the Alemanni, a point not determined the Middle Rhine. Historians, following Gregory of Tours in his History of the Franks, the traditional place in 496, but recent revisions place the Battle of Tolbiac in 506.

In gratitude for this victory, Clovis, who had married a Christian Catholic named Clotilda, was converted to the faith of Nicaea with his soldiers. It was the bishop of Reims, Remi who baptized Clovis.

The name of Tolbiac was assigned to a major street in the thirteenth arrondissement of Paris and, by extension, neighborhoods or surrounding buildings, "Faculty of Tolbiac (which is part of the University of Paris I - Panthéon-Sorbonne) , sector area Tolbiac Paris Rive Gauche, Bercy-Tolbiac bridge (footbridge Simone de Beauvoir).
