Erie County Savings Bank was built in 1893 on the site of the former First Presbyterian Church. The 9-story Richardsonian Romanesque building was the main branch of the three branch bank and was located in the heart of the commercial district of downtown Buffalo. After the bank closed and the other office tenants moved out, the building was scheduled for demolition. It was done in 1968 as part of a revitalization effort to improve downtown commerce.
